As a big music fan i love The Beatles,there are many reasons for admiring their work imo.

They were fantastic songwriters,good musicians and never stopped growing,developing.
No other band made so much progress in such a short time.
From simple songs like 'Love Me Do' to Penny Lane,Strawberry Fields Forever in only 5 years! * +

They wrote sh*t, they played sh*t. Teeny bopper fodder that has been grandfathered in. Some of their songs can be half OK when played by proper bands with real musicians. But it's a low bar. * +

I've never really been all that in to the Beatles tbh, now don't get me wrong here, I don't dislike them or think they were sh*t or owt like that, I have listened to them and do actually quite like some of their stuff, or more accurately i've grown to appreciate it over the years.
I think maybe it's because they were slightly before my time, when I first started getting into music their's seemed/looked a bit old fashioned and dated to me, even though it wasn't really from all that long beforew just seemed that way to me at that time(they were nearly always in black and white, even on colour TVs).
I was only 5yrs old when John Lennon was shot but I have a very vivid memory of sitting on the sofa with my dad watching telly when they interrupted the programme with a newsflash to announce it. * +
