The Suez canal in Egypt, one of the most strategically important waterways in the world, has been completely blocked by a huge container ship. The Ever Given was blown off course by high winds and is now jammed diagonally against both banks of the channel. An estimated 6bn of freight passes through the canal everyday, all of which is now stuck.
