A Man passes away inside Milwaukee apartment, still responsible for next month's rent

When Deana Barber got a hold of a letter from her dad's property manager, she couldn't believe what she was reading. Even though he died, he still had to pay rent.

Her father, Robert, is a Vietnam War veteran. He died in his sleep inside his Milwaukee apartment days before Christmas.

Deana says her dad's property manager, BG Lein Management, sent her father a letter after he passed away. It stated since he vacated the property they were withholding the entire security deposit and that he's responsible for rent through January.

Emergency responders damaged Robert's door to get into his unit, but Deana tells us she spent days doing a deep clean of the apartment. She returned all of the keys and the garage door opener.

Deana says that a security deposit would have helped pay for her dad's funeral costs. She says, her father, who served our country, deserved better.

Just because you can do it doesn't mean you should, Deana said.

America is pretty mercenary when it comes to billing. saw a story a few years back about a bank that foreclosed on a woman's mortgage because she'd misread an amount and underpaid by a few cents.

I think banks there don't even return payments made after a property has been resold.

in Europe access to water is seen as a human right and you can't be cut off for nonpayment, in America though you can and periods between being overdue and cutoff are shorter too.

I always thought debts died with a person but guess not. They should be ashamed of them selfs the guy served for his country he deserved better. It always comes down to MONEY. * +

politicians only care about military service when it's to their advantage, there are shocking amounts of homeless veterans over there.
