The European Commission confirmed on Thursday that the European Union-Morocco farm agreement that entered into force on July 19, 2019, has been properly implemented, resulting in real benefits for the Sahara provinces, even in times of the COVID-19 crisis, noting that these provinces have become a real economic hub linked to important partners such as the EU, Russia, and sub-Saharan Africa.
The European body emphasizes that Moroccos Southern Provinces have become a real economic hub linked to important partners such as the EU, Russia, and sub-Saharan Africa.
The EU report also highlights the significant efforts made by Morocco to attract investments as well as the projects carried out as part of the 2016-2021 development program for the Southern provinces.
The EC report also reflects Moroccos serenity regarding the implementation of the agreement and the seriousness of its approach with regard to the commitments taken by both parties. * +

For Morocco, the EU is by far its biggest economic partner, accounting for well over half of its trade and investment. It also has significant ties to Europe through the sizeable Moroccan-origin communities in Spain, France and elsewhere, which generate major remittances and tourism. There are common interests in controlling illegal migration and terrorism, both of which can threaten Moroccos own stability, and in fighting climate change. The country also needs European understanding and support in dealing with the Western Sahara.
The stage could now be set for a new phase in EU-Moroccan relations. It is likely that the new EU leadership, once confirmed, will quickly understand the potential for greater cooperation.
Does this greater cooperation mean Morocco will one day join the European Union and thus finally enjoy the same freedoms as EU citizens do? * +

Turkey already has been engaged in greater continued dialogue with the EU that could further increase the speed of its accession in the Union.
A positive agenda adopted by the EU Council in December is in the mutual interest of both Turkey and the European Union, the German envoy in Ankara has said, stressing that Brussels was open and ready for talks with Turkey to develop relations further and resolve existing conflicts * +

Shame. EU sounds better having Al Mamlakah al Maghribiyah attached to it. Might happen one day though.
