I think only village sized communities can work together to take on all the various tasks they might want completed.
otherwise the fisherman might not want any horse shoes while the blacksmith does want fish.
I can't see the blacksmith being happy to make goods for whoever wants them when he has to work much harder to produce them. * +

Exchange rate? Why does there need to be one? Nobody is exchanging anything for anything else.
Sure we all work..but not to a value limitation.
We create to have what we need/want. You need a motorbike,I need a loaf of bread..it's not an exchange..go pick up your bike and I will pick up my bread. Next week I may need the bike and you need an egg timer...go pick one up. Nobody is weighing the value of one item above another.

Because that's how we evaluate value for the goods that we exchange; work void of value will diminish the incentive to work like others have pointed out. But think about it on a bigger scale; power production, water, gasoline extraction, cellular services, WIFI... Those things require money to run. A lot of money. A lot of incentive especially for companies to operate. Workers, who spend hundreds of hours doing dangerous jobs so you could have running electricity at night and a stable life. How about a heart specialist? Would he choose to operate in exchange for having his toilet fixed by a local plumber or would he instead operate on the other person offering Gold Rolex watches in return? The value just isn't the same, and there will always be an exchange because goods and services are never free. * +

You can. Everything is free , all I'm going to be doing is rolling fat ones round the campfire , I'll maybe take a stroll down the garden in the afternoon to chat with the pixies , or to stroke a unicorn, whatever * +

For unicorn semen? Nod.gif smart man. In Ogdenz' futuristic barter community I can see such items being highly prized. *
