Survivial of the fittest. The strong survive while the weakest link die out leaving out the mighty few who produce genetically superior off-spring that lead civilation towards greater ends.

To what extent do you agree or disagree with the aforementioned sentiments? Nature appears ruthlessly cruel, and humans appear to have evolved with an innate sense of cruelty that allows progressive evolution leading us to be top of the food chain. But on the other hand, isn't there a moral compass amongst us to care for the needy, the sick and the weak?

If nature has created a cycle of strong oppressing the weak; is modern civilization then going against the very paradigm of nature by constructing an artificial civilization where a sense of equality is being presupposed.

Your thoughts. * +

It's not always the ''strongest'' who survive.

Spanish Flu wiped out many healthy individuals.. their
robust immune systems were their downfall. Their lungs became a battleground and they died choking on the result.

The strongest/fittest get sent off to war.. WW1 is a great example of a generation being decimated. * +

If a bodybuilder dies of a heart attack, whilst an obese couch potato survives, then the latter was fitter. It has been proven by result. 'Fittest' doesn't strictly mean physical form. There are a million sports in life. * +

What comes to mind is that there are different types of 'strong' and 'fertile' in our species.stuff that benefits the community.we pass on more than our genes to eachother * +

to suggest nature is cruel is anthropomorpic. Nature is nothing, it just exists. At best nature provides a series of cataclysmic events that create niches waiting to be filled by those best adapted to filling and maintaining their existance within them. * +
