This. its exactly why we come together, work together, help each other in times of war and pandemics etc. It's in the individuals interests to act collectively Once it's passed it isn't and on we go.

An example is roads, a huge infrastructural project that we all agreed to cooperate on because all would benefit. That doesn't mean we all decided that the state would be the ones to make the cars too. We build the roads together then go our separate ways to compete against each other to make the best cars. * +

That's a fallacy, Capitalism drives efficiency. I'm not a communist, I think the free market is the most efficient mechanism to manage scarce resources. But Capitalism does not drive innovation. Penicillin was not discovered by, or because of Capitalism. Neither was fire, or weed. * +
