Someone has been bottled over the head by a flight attendant after trying to open the emergency doors on a flight. These stories seem to pop up from time to time. * +

Can an emergency exit door really be opened mid flight? I find it hard to believe it could be.
If it is possible then why isn't their a system to lock it completely when the aircraft is in flight? * +

I thought they did lock electronically I was near the front on my last flight and I watched the trolly dolly close the door and press a few buttons on a screen * +

If the emergency doors are opened in flight then the airpressure from inside will suck everything and everyone outside. * +

What would happen if it was needed and all in the c0ckpit died in the crash and no one could release the door * +

Yeah that makes sense tranie. In today's world where there's so much security and sky Marshalls etc wouldn't it be mad to have a situation where a terrorist determined to bring a plane down would only have to open an emergency exit? * +

If the emergency doors are opened in flight then the airpressure from inside will suck everything and everyone outside.

That's another reason I doubt whether the emergency doors could be opened mid flight. * +
