I'm hopeless at both giving and receiving compliments. The situation turns my inner self into a mess.

My compliments to others will usually seem subtle and diversive as a result, which is frustrating.
Worse still, even the nicest ones given to me feel like a nightmare i've just awoken from - reminds me of a time a stunningly pretty bird told me i was great, and i had to walk off like she'd just shat on the carpet..
