Yes the smoking ban did major damage ,plus the price of land in the southeast were i live has sky rocketed to record levels as have the price of properties so the landlords have cashed in . Even listed buildings are not safe and being demolished for flats

True but also prices. It's like four quid for a pint now, in a relatively deserted pub. Beer at the off licence is little more than it was back when it was half that.

It's a viscous circle. I'd pay the four quid if it was packed like it was, in the karaoke days. Now the pubs have been reinvented with trendy wine bar interiors, sofas, might as well sit at home. * +

We had a bar and a pool table in our living room growning up. Not many people went to the pub, they were all in ours. * +

The pubs round here are around 4.50 a pint *
