JOHANNESBURG - The International Relations Department says the process behind the arrest of a South African man and his Ukrainian fianc in Dubai is now in the hands of United Arab Emirates authorities.
The couple was arrested on Tuesday in Abu Dhabi when it was found the woman was pregnant out of wedlock.
Sex before marriage in the region is illegal.
Its believed the woman was feeling ill and went to a medical centre, where the doctor found she was pregnant, and reported her to police.
Departments Nelson Kgwete says the South African embassy in Abu Dhabi and the department are not in a position to interfere in the legal process.
As they are implementing a decision relating to the enforcement of their own law, they are a sovereign state with a right to prosecute offences that seem to be criminal in their jurisdiction. * +

Yeah i wouldn't go there. There are a few countries of which i don't respect their laws, so i wouldn't go there. It's just common sense.

You go to a country, you respect the law of the land. If you can't, or won't, don't go there. * +
