West Midlands Police under fire over FGM tweets

West Midlands Police has been criticised for suggesting parents involved in committing female genital mutilation (FGM) on their children should not always be prosecuted.
The force said in a tweet that education and safeguarding vulnerable girls was its priority in FGM cases, adding that prosecuting or jailing parents was unlikely to benefit youngsters.

Detective Constable Gill Squires, FGM expert at the WMPs vulnerable crime unit Sentinal, later tweeted that the force will prosecute parents or cutters if it is in the childs best interests.
The West Midlands has one of the highest rates of FGM in the country.

David Jamieson said: FGM is child abuse and both myself and the public rightly expect West Midlands Police to arrest and prosecute those committing this most serious of crimes.

WMP have always been the scummiest police force in the country,aside of South Yorkshire Police. Condoning child abuse because of cultural issues is scandalous,disgraceful,but sadly in todays politically correct society,not surprising.

I was thinking this but couldn't remember why ....wasn't there some scandal to do with them in the 80s or 90s ? * +

Jailing parents will benefit young girls. Long sentences. Because girls who lose their parents for sexual abuse and GBH are less likely to do it to their own children, and the deterrent should also echo throughout the community. * +

Ow can this benefit the young girl's when they are sent to a relative in the next town or city. Or even sent abroad on the pretense of visiting their grandparents, to get this done. * +

Where did they condone it? Everyone is missing the point because they are so closed minded and stupid. What benefit is there to jailing a kids parents and putting the kid through the system if they would be better off with their parents? Actually don't even answer that. Just because the parents cultural beliefs led them to do that does not mean they can't be good parents thereafter. * +
