Following the Nottinghamshire post here.. I wasn't really getting my point across.. People don't seem to be aware or caring at all about the feelings or wishes of others... so.. this was not written by me, but someone I know, who I share similar experiences with... here goes.. * +

I was working as an office assistant for a big company that sold and repaired industrial pumps. One day a new tradesman, who was a 6'5 built giant, cornered me at the back of the stock room, blocked my path and refused to let me past until i gave him a kiss. He said he wanted to have me. Thanks for not r*ping me!

The next morning, after a drunken party at a friends place, there were people asleep everywhere in the living room. I woke up to a guy who had been at the party, with his hands between my legs, me. He said I wanted it because I didn't stop him and I was just pretending to be asleep. Thanks for only digitally r*ping me!

Our sports teacher was a dirty old perv. We all knew it. One day he cornered me in the change rooms and demanded all the other girls leave, under the pretence of having a stern word with me. Once they were gone he touched my breasts, my belly, and leaned down and leered into my face to tell me I was a trouble maker. Thanks for valuing your job more r*ping me!

There was this guy I didn't want to date, but he refused to take no for an answer. He kept waiting for me outside my after school job and would follow me home. He would drive beside me and tell me to get in so he could give me a lift. I got sick of it, so one day I got in the car. He pressured me for sex. I didn't know what to do so I told him I had my period. He stuck his hands down my jeans telling me that I needed to prove it, so he was checking that I had a tampon in. Thanks for being grossed out by my period blood and not r*ping me!

I was really drunk at a party and went to lie down in the bedroom. A guy I had been friends with a long time, came in and had sex with me as I kept passing out and waking up. He said he thought that's why I went into the room. Thanks for gently r*ping me!

My brothers friend was living with us. Every night he would come into my room and touch me and make me touch him. I told my brother, he was angry because he was attracted to his friend and blamed me because the friend was doing it to me and not him. Thanks for being jealous and busting in on your friend molesting me. At least he didn't r*pe me!

I was with a guy that was emotionally, mentally and physically violent. He would beat me and I learnt to just lie there and take my mind somewhere else until it was over. This made him angry, so one day he said he knew how to make me scream and then anally r*ped me. Thanks for wiping my tears afterwards and helping me walk to the shower after r*ping me!

I was dating a guy and he asked his friend to drive me home one day. We went on a motorbike. The entire way he kept grabbing my hand and putting it on his erection. When we finally got to my house, he tried to pressure me into sex. I ran inside and called my boyfriend. Thanks for being afraid of him and not r*ping me!

I had lived with my partner for about 4 years. I was going through severe depression. Every night he would try to initiate sex. In the end I just let him do it. He would make moans of pleasure and have sex with me while I lay there, unmoving, silent, looking up at the ceiling. When he was done he would roll over and go to sleep while i sobbed quietly. Thanks for crushing my spirit and treating me like a hole to fu*k when you r*ped me!

I was at work and interviewing a person in a private, confined space. After I left he messaged me to tell me the entire time I was doing my job, he was thinking about fu*king the sh*t out of me all over that place because I made him toey. But he told me he knew it was wrong. Thanks for only r*ping me in your head in graphic detail then telling me about it afterwards!

These girls and women are all the same person. Me. These are just the occasions I can remember off the top of my head.
If these are just the events I can remember off the top of my head, then how many stories does each and every other woman have?
The final example happened a few days ago and there was an audible pop as my bubble burst and I was reminded, yet again, that to be female and alone is to not be safe. To be female and to be daring enough to roam about freely without an owner, to be unclaimed by another man is to not be safe. To be female and do nothing more than your 9-5 job is to not be safe. To simply be female is to NOT.... BE.... SAFE. * +

I am again in a state of hyper vigilance. I am acutely aware of every person, their every action or look and I, for the time being I am maintaining a constant state of readiness to flee or fight. This is an involuntary state over which I have no control until I have had time to process and move forward.
Yesterday a large group of men wearing high vis work wear, all walked past me. They were yelling out things to each other. No doubt they were just being guys doing guy things and hanging sh*t on each other. However by the time they passed me I was shaking and I thought I would vomit. Because right now, I see menace and threat everywhere.
Look I get it, people are sick of hearing about r*pe culture. Unfortunately the phrase has become a trigger for people shut off, stop listening, cease to invest in thought and discussion around it. We sound like we are complaining. We are ungrateful. Women in other cultures have it way worse. Stop being so dramatic.
If there are willing listeners, their support is quickly followed by helpful advice on what she should have done, said, thought in the moment that it was occurring. That somehow women are to blame for allowing themselves to be perpetrated against. Or that perhaps she is overreacting. * +

After all, she didn't get r*ped.
What needs to be clearly understood is that women are r*ped multiple times a day. Not just physically. We are r*ped with their eyes and with their thoughts and with their words.
I get why straight men don't understand it. Once they grow up and are big, they have forgotten that feeling of complete and utter powerlessness they may have experienced in the school yard.
They may be sympathetic, they may be supportive and understanding, but you can't empathise with a experience that is beyond your comprehension.
They are not like those guys, their friends are not like those guys. Therefore, how many guys can really be doing this, to so many women, all the time? It doesn't add up for them. It feeds into the ongoing message that women are overly emotional, they overreact.
Once again we are not taken seriously.
I guess, cuz patriarchy.
I wanted to end this with something sharp, positive, kick as s and fu*k you a**holes, but I got nothing.
Maybe I will find something soon.
Peace out all my fierce bi**hes. * +

This isn't misogyny though, this is sexual assault in these examples. Surely you see that? * +
