I'm all for folk who drive gas guzzlers and Chelsea tractors bein hit hard, and I would like to see cyclists pay their share...

Well i can't remember much. I'm surprised he hasn't raised the time i joyrode a bus yet, though i'm sure it's coming.

Actually, I won't bother sayin another word on the matter. Ur last comment about joyriding a bus is the icing and cherry on the cake, and proves without a doubt the point I've been making, as if it were needed...

So I've been looking at these road tax changes. It's good. It's strange though, as it's both very Tory, and yet a bit socialist with some communism...

Basically, it's to try and put cleaner new cars on the road, and make manufacturers and customers opt for lower emissions, whilst also simplifying the tax system in the used car market.

At the moment, used car tax is all manner of prices. I'm looking for a used car, and the greener I go, the cheaper the tax. Not anymore - all vehicles will cost the same after the first year, like they used to. Apart from zero emission vehicles. 140 quid a year. This makes sense, as it's already on the road.

Tax range for new cars is something else though. It's still cheap for low emission stuff, 30 quid, 40, 60, that sort of thing for your usual range in the budget ranges. But as the emissions go up, it begins to go through the roof. By the time you get over 200 parts Co2 you're in the four figure tax cost bracket!
But it's only for the first year.

So new car buyers are subsidising the big engines, used car buyers are subsidising the eco boxes, and electric cars are free.

For me, tax is getting cheaper. A second hand vehicle with a medium engine is gonna be half the price to tax now. *
