Communities secretary Sajid Javid has said civil servants and other public office holders should swear an oath to British values. * +

Javids proposals would mean every new recruit in the public sector including councillors, school governors and civil servants would be expected to commit to the oath before starting their role. * +

i agree with that
if your a civil servant then you work for the crown. You dont wanna swear an oath then either fk off to a country that supports your personal veiws or find another job simple really. * +

What a load of pointless horse shyte. In the same way as I don't believe in the Bible,if I were up in court I would have to swear on the bible..as a non believer would that make me more likely to tell the truth? * +

It's a pointless exercise. If I was appointed to one of those jobs and refusing to swear an oath stopped me from getting the job then I would take the oath and it would mean nothing to me..I would be swearing it just so I got, remained in the job. * +

I didn't know that. Anyhow my point still stands. Having to swear something doesn't mean you believe it. You are doing it out of obligation. * +
