I don't need research findings or newspaper articles to tell me that children born to parents who are at the bottom of the social scale are less intelligent than average, more like than average to gain a criminal record, more likely to smoke, become overweight, take more than average from the pool of resources while paying in less than average, use the NHS more than the average person etc.

Intervention is a nice idea but while these people have crap chavvy parents, it's doomed to failure. * +

Society has as big a role to play as parents, kids spend more time at school than they do with their parents.

These days we've seen a turn for the worse. When i was a kid, i spent all my time out with friends, climbing trees, out on bikes, whatever. These days, kids are indoors more often. Telly, gaming, that sort of thing. Losing social skills, getting obese. *
