They already have, to an extent, now they are going the whole hog, I can't say I'm surpised.

Oxford street first, where will they pedestrianise next?

I see a future with cars being only for rich people and hobbyists, not that I like it one bit. The motorway speed limits are being reduced, they'll introduce 10mph speed limits in many places. Just keep watching. The future looks grim for motorists.

Maybe a move to Germany is the answer, since they fix congestion by making roads bigger, capable of safely carrying more road users. * +

They're engineering-in congestion, been doing it years now.

Traffic jams get worse, but they're the same vehicles. It's not that there are more vehicles on the road overall, just that the ones using the road are on the roads longer, so more vehicles are occupying the road at any given time.

This is achieved by slowing down traffic, so it takes longer to complete it's mile, thus keeping it on the road for longer.

Various methods range from lowering speed limits to putting traffic lights on previously free-flowing junctions.
