They've had a bad couple of days in Japan, another big earthquake and then a plane crash involving a Japanese coastguard aircraft taking emergency response supplies to the quake affected region, which was completely destroyed after the pilot seemingly misheard air-traffic control instructions and taxied onto the runway, where a Japanese Airlines Airbus A350 on final approach essentially landed right on top of it.

Remarkably all 350+ passengers and crew onboard the Airbus survived and were safely evacuated* within minutes before the badly damaged aircraft was destroyed by fire. 5 people aboard the coastguard aircraft were sadly killed but the captain somehow managed to survive.

* the plane was already a fireball as it slid down the runway on its nose, having had it's front landing gear torn off. An absolutely remarkable job by the crew to get everybody out alive in time with only 3 of the 8 escape slides able to be deployed. * +
