On a more positive note, the UK was recently declared free from the H5N1 strain of bird flu again with no new cases being reported for a number of months, following several widespread outbreaks in the country over the last few years. * +

It's not really a risk unless you come into close personal contact with an infected bird or birds. There have been no human to human transmissions of this particular strain of bird flu and this is in fact the first ever recorded human case of H5N2.

It was an old guy with an already weakened immune system that died, who had been bedridden and unwell for several weeks before he even caught the bird flu from the chickens that he kept at his home. Non of the man's immediate family or anyone else he was in contact with before he died seem to have been infected and they have all tested negative. * +
