i seem to remember that j*p dude, they had to get his old commanding officer to turn up and order him to surrender. The commanding officer had been a shoe salesman in america for like 20 years. I remember it being on the news and the dude said he saw leaflets and heard on the radio that japan had surrendered but he thought it was a trick, he refused to believe that japan would have surrendered. * +

Yeah, think that was in the 70s iirc? He wasn't the only one they found living on a remote pacific island years after the war, just that he held out for a lot longer than the others did.

They still occasionally find evidence of others that had been holed up long after the war ended, there was an article I saw a few years ago about a camp and 2 bodies found by explorers on an uninhabited island(think it was in the Philippines somewhere), which they believe had probably died sometime in the 70s. *
